Fourteen photographs (A-N), as follows:
(A) Mounted professional portrait (without date) of J G Ballard, who appears to be about five years old. Black and white, 245 x 190mm excluding mount.
(B-D) 1937. Three black and white prints, in different sizes, of the same image: J G Ballard (wearing a school cap) sat on a bicycle, with his mother, Edna Ballard, standing beside him. One copy of the print has identifying information (typescript) adhered to the verso. Photograph taken outside the family home, Amherst Avenue, Shanghai. Original small print (B: 80 x 55mm) with two enlarged copies (C: 195 x 130mm; D: 290 x 200mm).
(E) 1938. J G Ballard, with his father (James Ballard) and his sister Margaret as a baby on her father's knee. Black and white, 80 x 55mm.
(F) 1940. J G Ballard stood holding a cricket bat. Black and white, 80 x 55mm.
(G) 1941. J G Ballard with dog (Sheila). Black and white, 75 x 55mm.
(H) Shanghai, without date. Mrs Edna Ballard, seated, with a young child (unidentified -Margaret Ballard?) also seated. Black and white, 240 x 175mm.
(I) 1938. Group photograph taken on the Bund, annotated names in blue ink on the recto: Mrs Edna Ballard; J G Ballard; the wife of General Levis; and a Chinese woman carrying a young child (Margaret Ballard?). Black and white, 160 x 160mm.
(J-K) Without date. Two copies of a group school photograph: approximately 75 children in school uniform in four rows. J G Ballard is standing, third row from the front, 8th child from the right (indicated by a red arrow on the smaller of the two copies). Two black and white copy photographs: (J) 200 x 250mm, and (K) 95 x 240mm.
(L) 1945. J G Ballard. Black and white, 55 x 55mm.
(M-N) 1938. Two photographs that appear not to be family photographs, both annotated on the verso. (M) is an image of the Bund (in the distance) with the Japanese Flagship Idzumo to the right of the image; (N) is of a male figure, with hat and cane, standing on the Bund (annotated: 'On the Bund at Shanghai, all dressed up and nowhere to go. Clarke.'). Photograph dimensions: (M) 90 x 115mm; (N) 110 x 65mm.
