The volume contains a chronological list of brief summaries of papers relating to the activities of the Indian Expeditionary Force D (also known as the Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force) between 1 and 30 June 1915. This is accompanied by appendices containing copies and extracts of these papers, which include letters, memoranda, lists, telegrams, and intelligence summaries and appreciations [reports] from the Directorate of Military Operations.
A summary of the contents of this volume can be found at folio 10, and the volume concerns:
- The advance of Force D up the Tigris, the surrender of ‘Amarah [Al ‘Amarah], and the commencement of the advance to Nasiriyah
- Details of prisoners taken and weapons and equipment captured by Force D
- The movements and operations of Russian and Turkish [Ottoman] forces on the Caucasus front
- Requests for supplies, equipment, and transport, including river vessels, dredgers, wireless sets, and medical facilities
- Requests for reinforcements and other personnel
- Requests for aeroplanes, pilots and air mechanics, and plans for the organisation of the flying service in Mesopotamia.
The following tables are included:
- Details of men suspected of sedition who are to be arrested (folios 28-29)
- The effective strengths of the fighting and medical units of Force D (folios 133-135, 145, 174-176)
- The distribution of troops belonging to Force D (folio 162)
- An embarkation statement of reinforcements for Basra (folios 236-239).
Summaries of the contents of previous volumes can be found at folios 3 to 9.
The vast majority of material in the volume dates from June 1915, but there is also a small amount of material which dates from April and May 1915.
