The volume contains a chronological list of brief summaries of papers relating to the activities of the Indian Expeditionary Force D (also known as the Mesopotamia Expeditionary Force) between 1 and 31 October 1919. This is accompanied by appendices containing copies and extracts of these papers, which include telegrams and tables.
An index to the contents of this volume can be found at folios 1-3. The volume concerns:
- Military personnel issues, including the demobilisation of troops, travel arrangements for soldiers’ families, changes to the equipment of units and the unavailability of Gurkha reinforcements
- Personnel requirements of Force D
- Shipment of vehicles from Mesopotamia and Egypt to India
- Supply of animals and construction materials to Force D
- Proposed construction of telegraph cable routes in Persia [Iran], Syria, and Mesopotamia
- Assignment of British units for service in the British garrison in Mesopotamia
- The transition from British military to British civilian administration
- Conflict between British military units and Kurds
- Railway construction in Mesopotamia
- Discussion of possible British military support for the Persian Government in the event of a coup d’etat by the Persian Cossack Division.
The volume also contains:
- Distribution and composition of Force D, including details of lines of communication and general organisation (ff 93-102)
- Distribution Report showing number and condition of motor vehicles with Force D, 1 August 1919 (ff 47-68)
- Ration strength of Force D on 4 October 1919 (ff 75-76), 18 October 1919 (f 89).
