-
Lists of debts, including stock and dividends, due to or by the old East India Company. Agreements with trustees of surviving adventurers. The lists were compiled between 1720 and 1729, and cover debts between 1681-1708.
A volume of several parts, including:
- pp.1-2, A summary stating that before the old Company surrendered its Charter, it assigned its debts and effects to the Crown, in order that they could be (and in fact were) reassigned to several persons in trust to pay debts and dispose of the residue among the adventurers in the joint stock of the old Company. The Trustees called a meeting and appointed persons to be petitioners in a bill to be brought in Chancery, calling for an account of the trust money. At the hearing of the case an order was made for an account to Michaelmas 1720 to be prepared and confirmed by the Court. Some time after the above arrangements were made, some of the adventurers, being concerned about the delay, had a draft deed prepared under which the majority of the surviving adventurers assigned to two surviving trustees the whole of their interests, and agreed to receive from the trustees certain sums in full and final settlement of claims. 1720;
- pp, 3-6, A statement of the accounts of the Trust of the London (Old) East India Company from the date the Master's Report has settled the name, to 29 Sep 1726, and a further account, to 29 Sep 1729;
- pp. 7-10, A schedule or list of debts due to the London (Old) Company, 1685-1716;
- pp. 11-16, A schedule of debts due by the London (Old) Company, 1681-1708;
- pp. 17-23, A schedule of stock assigned by the London (Old) Company to Samuel Waters and Thomas Granger, with names of stock holders, the amount of each holding and interest due thereon, 1720;
- pp. 24-31, Another schedule of debts owing by the Company;
- pp. 32-35, Another schedule of amounts due to the Company;
- pp. 36-58, Accounts of the monies received by the Trustees of the old Company since their last account exhibited in the High Court of Chancery, up to Michaelmas 1720 with enclosures. 1720;
- pp. 59-88, A detailed draft statement of case (with enclosures) presumably prepared for legal purposes, with a statement of the events leading up to the separation of the old and new companies and to the trusteeship, Signed and dated May 1718;
