- Scope & Content:
- A box of unbound statements of expenditure, often with a historical statement attached, on a variety of subjects. Apparently compiled between 1871 and 1873, although some cover much earlier periods. It has not been possible to ascertain their purpose as although most of the statements of expenditure were prepared in the Accountant General's Department, the historical statements were prepared elsewhere. The whole covers the period when the Accountant General was also the Financial Secretay. Among the subjects covered are the following: (a) Amounts of stocks and loans chargeable on Indian revenues 1858-1872. (b) Amounts of loans raised, 1862-1872. (c) Amount of the Security Fund of the East India Company, 1873. (d) Postal arrangements between India and England, 1854-1872. (e) Home postage of the India Office. (f) Subsidy to Euphrates and Tigris Steam Navigation Company 1862-1870. (g) Memorandum on the River Tigris. (h) Receipts and expenditure of the Indo-European Telegraph Department, 1870-1872. (i) Payments in respect of the Maharajah Duleep Singh 1849-1870. (j) Trade between India and China, and United Kingdom and China, 1861-1871. (k) Cost of management of India debt, 1859-1871. (l) Cost of construction of iron clad monitors for Bombay To 1871. (m) Persian Missions, 1798-1859. (n) Diplomatic and consular establishments in China, 1834-1870. (o) Special mission of Major General F J Goldsmid to Persia, 1870-1871. (p) Cost of purchase of Cooper's Hill and of its maintenance, 1869-1871. (q) Maintenance of lunatics at Hackney and Ealing, To 1872. (r) Expenses of candidates for various civil appointments in India 1869-1872. (s) Government of India agents at outports, 1870-71. (t) Red Sea and India Telegraph Company, 1858-1862. (u) Books, maps, newspapers, etc supplied to or for the Government of India, 1870-1871. (v) Relief overseas to distressed natives of India, 1870-1871. (w) Telegraph line Rangoon to Singapore, 1859-1870. (x) Loans from the Bank of England, 1857-1866. (y) Poplar Fund. History of Fund and accounts To 1870. (z) Unclaimed dividends on East India Capital Stock, 1858. (aa) Family remittances of all descriptions from India, c.1870. (bb) Salaries and expenses of agents in Egypt and Malta, 1871. (cc) India Bonds. Authorised borrowings by the Company and rates of interest paid
