This manuscript consists of three parts, bound together:
ff. 1-12: An Abecedarium in Latin, Greek and Hebrew; a verse prophecy of the Sibille, verses on the zones of the Earth, the seasons and related topics in Latin; a Greek litany (2nd half of the 14th century);
ff. 14-147: The Katherine Group of texts in Middle English: Ancrene Riwle (Ancrene Wisse), Sawles Warde, Hali Meiðhad; The Wohunge of ure Laverd, Seinte Katerine (1st half of the 13th century);
f. 148: Lists of the archbishops of Canterbury and bishops of Lincoln (mid-16th century).

Foliation: ff. 1* +148 (f. 1* and f. 13 are early modern parchment flyleaves and f. 148 consists of two parchment leaves glued together, folded and inserted (numbered in pencil ff. 148 and 149) + 4 unfoliated paper flyleaves and 1 unfoliated parchment flyleaf at the beginning + 4 unfoliated paper flyleaves at the end ).

Provenance (All parts):
Sir Robert Bruce Cotton (b. 1571, d. 1631), 1st baronet, antiquary and politician: contents lists on ff. 1* and 13v associated with the Cotton library, and included in the Cotton catalogues, Additional MS 36789, (ff.103-104, 106-107) and Additional MS 36682 (see Colin G. C. Tite, The Early Records of Sir Robert Cotton’s Library: Formation, Cataloguing, Use (London: The British Library, 2003), p. 200).
Cotton’s collection was augmented by his son, Sir Thomas Cotton (b. 1594, d. 1662), 2nd baronet, and his grandson, Sir John Cotton. Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet: bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, 12 and 13 William III, c. 7. Formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
