Discourse on the subject of the 1560 secret marriage between Edward Seymour, first earl of Hertford (1539?–1621), courtier, and Katherine Seymour, [née Grey], countess of Hertford (1540?–1568), noblewoman and royal kinswoman.
With a list of the commissioners in the case, and notes on conflicting accounts given by the Earl and Countess.

ff. 2r-41v: Discourse on the cause of Edward Seymour and Katherine Grey’s marriage. ‘Tractatus in cause Dominae Catharine Grey et Comitis Hartfordiensis’. Latin.
f. 42r-42v: ‘Contrarieties in the answers of th’erle of Hartford and the Lady Catherine Grey aswell against them selfes as against eche other’. From the confession of September 1561.
ff. 42v-44v: ‘Contrarieties out of their severall answers to the articles at Lambeth’. On conflicting accounts given by the Earl and Countess.

Sir Robert Bruce Cotton (b. 1571, d. 1631), 1st baronet, antiquary and politician: former owner.
Cotton’s collection was augmented by his son, Sir Thomas Cotton (b. 1594, d. 1662), 2nd baronet, and his grandson, Sir John Cotton.
Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet: bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, 12 and 13 William III, c. 7. Formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
