A collection of fifteeen bundles containing items from the Cotton collection, many of them damaged in the Ashburnham House fire of 1731. Formerly housed with a collection of burnt parchment fragments, now classified as Cotton MS Fragments XXXII/1–XXXII/9, and sometimes referred to as the 'Cotton Box'.
Bundle 2: removed and reunited with Cotton MS Appendix XXIX.
Bundle 3: formerly classified as Cotton MS Appendix XXXII, ff. 43–44.
Bundle 4: an itinerary of England, and the apparition of a certain Cecilia, formerly classified as Cotton MS Appendix XLV, articles 7 and 11(a)–(d).
Bundle 15: notes by Sir Frederic Madden (d. 1873) and Colin Tite (d. 2017).

Provenance:
Bundles 1–14 were owned by Cotton family, Bts, Conington, 17th century. The collection was started by Sir Robert Bruce Cotton (b. 1571, d. 1631), 1st baronet, antiquary and politician, and augmented by his son, Sir Thomas Cotton (b. 1594, d. 1662), 2nd baronet, and his grandson, Sir John Cotton (b. 1621, d. 1702), 3rd baronet. Sir John Cotton bequeathed the entire Cotton collection of books and manuscripts to trustees ‘for Publick Use and Advantage’, 12 and 13 William III, c. 7.
Formed one of the foundation collections of the British Museum in 1753.
