- Title:
- Notes, correspondence and photographs assembled by Skelton for an article (?never published) on two manuscript maps, one by John Dee, 1580 (Britain and the polar regions), with annotations by William Cecil, Lord Burghley; and the other by Robert Norman, 1581 (the coastline from southern England to the Straits of Gibraltar).
- Scope & Content:
- These maps had been discovered bound into Lord Exeter's copy of the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum at Burghley House, Lincolnshire. Alexa Barrow's note says that after finding the photographs, she 'looked again at RAS's introduction to Lord Salisbury's book, and realised there must be notes somewhere. So I went through the Hatfield House material and extracted the only notes which seem relevant. All my father's notes pertaining to Lord Salisbury's book are being lodged at Hatfield House.' Also contains a covering note from Skelton's daughter Alexa Barrow passing the papers to Eila Campbell for Imago Mundi, 1971
