Letter book containing copies of letters from Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles to his mother, Ann Raffles (née Lyde).
Scope & Content:
This letter book contains copies of letters from Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles to his mother Lady Anne Raffles covering the period 1817-1822. In these letters Sir Thomas Stamford keeps his mother informed on his health, the birth and subsequent deaths of his children and news from other family members. He describes his physical appearance and mentions the headaches that may have been symptoms of the brain tumour he died from. He attempts to soothe his mothers worries and assures her constantly of his return in 1824.
