- This file contains a collection of letters from Sir Thomas Stamford raffles to Thomas Murdoch Esquire. These letters describe matters of Raffles administration in Benkulen between 1820-1825, mentioning dealings with the Dutch interest in the island. The letters also describe the series of misfortunes which affected Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles in the years 1821-1822, which included the deaths of three of his children, his wife's brother, and close friends such as William Jack. Furthermore he was plagued by illness himself during this period. Included is a letter asking for support for his claim on his lost possessions in the burning of the Fame and for a pension.
