Scope & Content:
Correspondence concerning portraits of Sir Thomas Stamford, Mrs Fanny Travers bequest of the portrait to the Reverend Stamford Raffles Raffles-Flint and a note recording its subsequent donation to the National Portrait Gallery. Included are letters from Thomas Herbert offering family history records to the Reverend Stamford Raffles Raffles-Flint. There is also correspondence between family members and to family members concerning the various biographies of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles' life. Much of the correspondence revolves around the Reverend Stamford Raffles Raffles-Flint's desire to have a biography of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles published. The letters also refer to subjects such as the busts of Napoleon and Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles at Highwood, family deaths, and Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles involvement with founding the Zoological Society.
