Physical Characteristics:

Paper. ff. 665. 305 x 210 (230 x 130 (ff. 13-665)) mm. Ruling Leroy D 12D1, 31 lines (ff. 13-665). Headpieces (ff. 361, 653) and decorated initials in pen and ink, the latter more elaborate after f. 360. Late 17th cent. binding of gold-tooled red goatskin over thin wooden boards, with a depiction of David at prayer stamped on the centre of the upper cover. Gilt-tooled fore-edges.

Copied for Stolnic Constantine Cantacuzenos (d.1716), partly by the priest Nikolaos ὁ Συνοπεὺς at the monastery of St Sava, Bucharest, 26 Jan. 1682 (inscription, f. 665).

Custodial History:

Owned by Stolnic Constantine Cantacuzenos (ex-libris, f. 13) and then Edmund Chishull, antiquary (Fontes p.104), who probably received the present volume at Bucharest in 1702 and later contributed ff. 1-12, dated 17 July 1705 (see f. 7v). Borrowed for the
