Theological extracts and letters, many relating to the Ecumenical Councils
- Scope & Content:
-
Theological extracts and letters, many relating to the Ecumenical Councils. Palimpsest, re-using at least five older manuscripts. The principal MS re-used was a liturgical book written in a small minuscule, perhaps a Menaeum for December. There are prayers and hymns to Nicholas (6 Dec.) and the Old Testament fathers (Sunday before Christmas). Many of the hymns are not identifiable in Follieri. In addition are the following:
ff 1+4, 81+82, 166, 167+172, 169+170, 181+184 Fragments of leaves written in sloping uncials. 10th century. ff 81r, 82v, 166v, 167r-v, 169r-v, 170v, 172r, and 172v contain extracts from Maximus the Confessor, Capita de caritate (TLG 2892.008), Books II and IV, and f 181r contains the beginning of Book XV. f 1r contains a summary of the treatise of Eulogius in defence of the council of Chalcedon. This is found in Photius, Bibliotheca, Codex 230 (PG 103. 1029B13-C2), and also in the Acta conciliorum oecumenicorum, which is the more likely source here, according to Losacco (2010) p. 491-92.
ff 122r+121v, 153v+154r, 119r+124v, 128r+131v, 144r+147v, 164r+159v Fragments of a service of dedication of a church, in which the prayers correspond to Goar, but the rubrics differ. Written in a large minuscule with decorated initials. 1st half of the 11th century. Correspondence to Goar: ff 122r+121v = p.658, 153v+154r = p.660, 119r+124v = p. 660, 128r+131v = p.660, 144r+147v = p.661, 164r+159v = p.663.
ff 135r-135v, 174r-180v, 182+183 Fragments of Latin texts in Caroline minuscule. 10th century.
