- Title:
- Oscar Barrett: Letter A, V, Loan of a Lover, Courier of Lyons, Rip van Winkle.
- Scope & Content:
-
- 'Letter A'. [1870s]. Orchestral parts. Short [stock] pieces numbered 1-63. Oscar Barrett's monogram added.
- 'V' or 'Letter V'. [1870s]. Orchestral parts. Short [stock] pieces. Oscar Barrett's monogram added. Contains two pages of cues/notes apparently relating to the use of some of these pieces in a production called 'By Land and Sea'.
- 'Loan of a lover'. [1870s?]. Music, probably by Oscar Barrett, for the vaudeville 'The loan of a lover' by James Robinson Planché. Orchestral parts (violins, bass, flute and clarinet only). Signed by E Barrett. The vaudeville was first performed at the Royal Olympic Theatre on 29 September 1834.
- 'The Courier of Lyons'. [1870s]. Music by Oscar H Barrett for the play 'The Courier of Lyons' by Charles Reade. Orchestral parts. The play was first performed at the Standard Theatre, London, in 1851. This music was possibly written for the 1876 production at the Royal Grecian Theatre, under the management of George Conquest.
- 'Rip van Winkle'. [1870]. Music by Oscar H Barrett for 'Rip van Winkle'. Score and orchestral parts. Written on the final page of the first violin part, 'Produced at the Royal Grecian Theatre Sept 5th/70'. Oscar Barrett's monogram added. Markings in pencil. Found with two loose leaves which contain lists of titles, one headed, 'Catalogue of this bundle. These band parts destroyed'. 'Rip van Winkle' was produced as part of a gala performance at the Grecian Theatre in September 1870, possibly as a burlesque of the play 'Rip van Winkle' by Dion Boucicault.
