Grant by William Cowleshaw [Cowlishaw] of Ashover, yeoman, to Edward, his son, of a toft and croft in the vill of Ashover, onetime in the tenure of William de Coventry, and which lies between the land of William Plumley on the west, and land of Henry Mersch on the east, and abuts on the common road on one head and upon the toft of the said William Plumley on the other head; and he also granted 4 parcels of land and meadow lying in Ashover fields, of which one parcel lies in width between the land of the said William Plumley on both sides, and abutts on one head upon the meadow of the same William called 'e Dale medow and on the other head on the water of Ambur'; and another parcel of land lies in Northwodlee, in width between the land of the said William on both sides, and which abuts on one head upon the common pasture called 'le Ladymarsch' and on the other head on the meadow of John Strelley; and another parcel lies in the fields of Westege, in width between the land of the rectory of the church of Ashover and land of the said Henry Mersch and William Plumley, and abuts on one head on le Kirk Sty and on the other on the common lane called Westege Lane; and another parcel called Wryandridyng in the same field, in width between the land of the said William on both sides, and which abuts on one head upon the land of the said William and on the other head on the water of Westfurth, together with that piece of land called le Sowebuttes which lies between the land of the said William on both sides and abuts on one head on to 'le Kirk Sty' and on the other upon le Bretgrowe; and also he granted a parcel of meadow called Howlomeydu lying in the said field called Westege, in width between the land of the said William Plumley on the west, and land of the said rectory on the east, and which abuts on one head upon the water of Ambur' and on the other on the land of the said rectory; and one rood of land in the said field lying between the land of the said Willilam Plumley on both sides and which abuts on one head upon the common pasture called le Halmor and on the other upon the land of the said William. Endorsements: These presents were written, sealed and delivered and possession of the within-named tenements was delivered by the said William to the said Edward, 1 May 1555 in the presence of Thomas Harryson, vicar of Ashover, Richard Sudell, clerk, Alan Marsshe and Richard Stubbyng, with many others.
