Foundation Charter of Sir John Cokayn, knight, John de Knyveton of Bradley, Roger de Bradburne and Richard Cokayn, that where Nicholas de Knyveton [Kniveton] of Underwood, esquire, deceased, in his last will and testament enfeoffed the above with an annual rent of 100s. from the manor of Mercaston, the same now grant the said annual rent to William de Hyde, chaplain of the church of St Oswald at Ashbourne, to found a chantry at the altar of the Holy Cross in the same church, for prayers for the soul of Joan, widow of the said Nicholas, Henry de Knyveton [Kniveton] and Robert de Knyveton [Kniveton] now living and for their souls after their deaths, and for the souls of Nicholas de Knyveton [Kniveton], William de Knyveton [Kniveton], and Margery his wife, and Thomas de Knyveton , and their parents, ancestors and benefactors, and also for John, duke of Aquitaine and Lancaster, from whom the manor was held, and John de Schepye, dean of Lincoln; with regulations and statutes, including the burning of a candle at the tomb of the said Nicholas, with the consent of the vicar of the said church, William de Newneham.Dated Ashbourne, co. - Pendent, Red wax, round; a shield of arms: on a bend cotised 3 mullets (see on a bend 3 mullets, for Bradburne), suspended by a strap from a tree, and within a carved gothic panel; inscription, SIGILLU ROGERI DE BRADBURNE. For Roger de Bradburne.
- Pendent, Red wax, round; within a lattice border, a device; inscription, indistinct.
- Pendent, Red wax, pointed oval; a male saint, perhaps St John the Evangelist, enthroned, with a flight of steps and rocky sides in the foreground; on the left an unidentified figure, full-length, probably the Dean, and on the right, suspended by a strap from a tree, a shield of arms, the bearings obligterated by pressure; the inscription was a rhyming hexameter verse - SHEPEYE DECANUM ...IA QZ SANUM; for John de Schepye, dean of Lincoln.
