Inquisition post mortem taken at Derby before Richard Blackwall esquire, escheator of the county of Derby, on the death of John Curson, late of Kedleston, esquire, by the oaths of George Abney, William Cruber, Mark Draycott, Thomas Lathom, Wililam Cokkys, John Calengworth, William Holland, Henry Fowler, Henry Anger, Thomas Fytche, William Meyre, Ralph Orme, Henry Glossoppe and Thomas Potter, who say that the said John Curson was seised at his death of the manor of Kedleston with members and hamlets of Weston Underwood and lands in Wingerworth, Tupton, Spondon, Chaddesden, Sturston and Sudbury; and also they say that the manor of Kedleston is held of the King of his honor of Tutbury, parcel of the duchy of Lancaster, for a quarter of a knight's fee and is valued at £20 a year, and that the lands in Wingerworth and Tupton are held of the King as of his honor of Tutbury for military service and are valued at 10 marks a year; and that the lands in Spondon, Chaddesden and Sturston are held of the King as of his honor of Tutbury, of which service the jurors are ignorant, and are valued at 40s. a year; and that the premises in Sudbury are held of the heirs of Sir John Mountgomery, knight, and are valued at 5 marks a year; and lastly they say the said John Curson held no other lands of the king in the said county, and that he died 22 November last last, and that Francis Curson is his brother and next heir and is aged 24 years.
