Will (holograph) of Thomas Sacheverell - I bequeath my soul to Almighty God my Creator and Saviour and forsaking the world and my works trusting only to be saved by the works, death, blood and passion of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ the only son of the most pure of all women and Blessed Virgin Mary with whom and all the blessed company of heaven I trust to have fruition everlasting not of my deserving but of his mercy, merits and calling, and my body to be buried in the church of Kirkby by the disposition of my executors - to every cottager in Kirkby and in the parish, 6d. - to the wife of William Farnsworth of Pinxton, 10s. yearly for 6 years to be paid to her out of my house called Kirkby Hall twice yearly by my heirs as they will answer for the contrary at the great day, or else to let her have 'iiij beastes frelye gressed' in Helbanke for the same cost for so many years at her election - to my sister Jane, the wife of William Johnson of Selston, 'iiij beastes gressed' in Helbanke for the 'somer joyste freley' for 5 years for the upkeep of her children - to Senche my wife for her lifetime my messuage and lands situate in Brockhyll and the windmill within or of late belonging to the parish of Pinxton, co. Derby with all the lands and tenements belonging to the same messuage except as hereafter excepted in full satisfaction of her jointure, reserving to my heirs all the grounds lying in Pinxton fields and the 'dooles', and also excepting 2 closes adjoining with the house called Colehull house and the spring standing in the same close, also excepting one annuity of 26s. 8d. going out of the said messuage to my brother John Sacheverell for his life - to Mary my daughter my lease that I have of the grant of Sir William Hollys, knight, of my farmhold there, except as much ground of the same as lies within 3 closes for Senche my wife during her life, if the years so long endure - to Mary my daughter my lease that I have of the grant of my lord Conyers of my farm of Helbanke and Parker Croft, except to the wife of Wiliam Terneworthe and to my sister Jane afore excepted - to my brother-in-law John Symson and to Humphrey Kyrkelande of Wheatcroft, my lease that I have of Master Henry Sacheverell esquire of the half-tithe of Belper in full satisfaction of all such foreign debts or recompense between me and either of them or else this gift to them to be void - to William Dekenson my servant my goodwill and interest that I have of the half of one close within Bradleylonde at Belper which I have of Master Henry Sacheverell, whom I trust will be good master to him therein for my sake - all my debts that can be proved to be paid by my executors - to William Dekenson for his wages and service, 20s. - to Anthony Dawson my servant for his wages and service, £3 - to my cousin George Hethecott [Heathcote] for his service, my grey gelding and £3 - to Margaret Whitworthe my servant for her wages and service, 10s. - the residue of my goods unbequeathed, my body brought home, my debts paid and my legacies performed, I give to Senche my wife and Mary my daughter, whom I make my executors, and I make overseer my beloved master and friend, Master Henry Sacheverell of Ratcliffe, esquire, to whom I give my best gown of 'blacke pewke faced with blacke conys' and my better crossbowe, and to his bedfellow a piece of gold of 10s.By me Thmas Sacheverell.These being witnesses, Richard Rychardsone, John Basse, John Symson my brother-in-law, John Haslam.
