Articles of Agreement or Marriage Settlement between Sir Thomas Playters, knight and baronet, of Sotterly, co. Suffolk, and Sir William Playters, knight, son and heir apparent of the said Sir Thomas, of the one part, and Sir Henry Willowby, knight and baronet, of Risley, co. Derby, regarding the intended marriage between Thomas Playters esquire, son and heir apparent of the said Sir William Playters, and Ann Willowby [Willoughby], eldest daughter of the said Sir Henry Willowby, and sole daugher and heir of dame Elizabeth, late wife of the said Sir Henry, now deceased, to take place before the Nativity of St John the Baptist next ensuing. In consideration of the jointure of the said Ann and for the livelihood of Dame Ann, now the wife of the said Sir Thomas Playters, the said Sir Thomas and Dame Ann and Sir William grant to the said Sir Henry the manors of Sotterly, Willingham and Ellough and the advowson of the churches of Sotterley and and Ellough and a moiety of the advowson of the church of Pakefield together with other lands in co. Suffolk.[Note on margin:] This marriage for some reason did not take place; the lady married as her first husband Sir Thomas Aston of Aston 'in the shire', Baronet, who died in 1645, and secondly the Hon. Archibald Grey esquire, younger son of Lord Stamford; by each of her husbands she left issue surviving. Thomas Playters, son of Sir William, marriaed Rebecca, daughter and heir of Thomas Chaplman of Wormley, co. Herts, and died at Messina, in Sicily, without issue, 1651, aged 35.
