Will and Testament of John Greaves the elder, of Beeley, co. Derby, gentleman - I commend my spirit into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body be buried in the chancel of Beeley - First, to the poor of Beeley, 20s. to be distributed by my executors at the day of my death - to the chapel of Beeley, 6s. 8d. - to my eldest son John Greaves of Woodhouse, all that within the Over Parlour of my house, excepting all the cushions therein - to my son Richard, 10s., and to my son William Greaves, parson of Brailesford, 12d., in full satisfaction of their childs' part - to my son Edward Greaves for his child's part and in full discharge of all promises made by me to him, by letter or otherwise, £21. and one filly to be delivered to him within one year after my death - to my son-in-law George Walker and Mary his wife, 20s. - to my grandson, John Greaves, 20s., and my grandson, Gilbert Greaves, one heifer calf of a year old - to every other of my grandchildren, one hog - to my godson John Higden, 10s. - to my cousin William Greaves of Tidswell, 20s. - all the rest of my goods I give to Charles Greaves, my son, and I also give to him and his heirs all those my messuages and lands lying in Edensor, co. Derby, which I and the said Charles lately jointly purchased together from the above John Greaves my son - I make the said Charles executor. By me John Greaves.

Endorsements: Probate granted by John Walker, Official, at Bakewell, 30 March 1622/3 to the executor named in the will. 'The will of my greate grandfather Greaves of Beeley and ye inventory dated 1619'. [The inventory has not survived].
