Lease, for 99 years, and for the sum of 5s., by Charles Stanhope of Elvaston, co. Derby, esquire, to Henry Gregson of Shirland, co. Derby, gentleman, of the office of 'prima pars Agard' and of and in the liberty of bailiwick of 'prima pars Agard' and of the offices of Feodary and Bailiff in fee, escheastor, clerk of the Market and Coroner in all places within the honor of Tutbury which extends into the several counties of Stafford, Derby, Nottingham, Leicester and Warwick; rent, a peppercorn. Reciting that Charles Agard of Foston in co. Derby, esquire, was in his lifetime seized of all these offices, and by deed bearing date 1 August 1677 he granted them to John Adderley of Derby, gentleman, for life; and Reciting that the said Charles Agard died in or about the year 1679 leaving issue only 3 daughters, namely Dorothy married to John Stanhope esquire, Catherine and Vere Agard, spinsters, who did after their father's death and in the year 1684 not only confirm the aforesaid grant but made a further grant of all the aforesaid offices to Charles Adderley, eldest son of the said John Adderley for life, and Reciting that whereas the said John Stanhope and Dorothy his wife, and the said John and Charles Adderley are dead, as lately are also the said Cather and Vere Agard without issue, the title to the said offices descend to the said Charles Stanhope as grandson to the said Agard, or as son and heir of the said Dorothy his mother, or as nephew and heir of the said Catherine and Vere Agard.
