Probate copy of the Will of John Statham of Tansley, co. Derby, gentleman : I make my will and testatment, and commend my soul to God trusting through the merits of Jesus Christ my Saviour to receive remission of my sins, and my body to be buried in our ancient burying place in Christ Church - First, I will my debts be paid by my executrix hereafter-named with full power to sell and dispose for the payment of my debts and legacies - to my daughter Jane, £50 - to my daughter Sara, £50, anwhereas I have paid 'severall great sumes of money' for Thomas Shore my son-in-law, my will is that out of such sums he shall hereafter be able to pay to my executrix in discharge of what I have paid for him - to my said 2 daughters Jane and Sara [and to each of] them, £50 more than the £50 apiece aforesaid - to my servant Edward Brunt 10s. - to my grandchild and godson John Statham, one ewe and lamb - the rest of my estate and lands, my debts are paid, to my wife Anne for her lifetime and after her death to my son Thomas - I appoint my said wife my sole executrix.[On a separate sheet of vellum] Probate granted in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury on 24 May 1680 at London before Sir Leo Jenkins, knight, of the will of John Statham of Tansley, co. Derby, gentleman, to Anne Statham, widow and sole executrix of the deceased. Signed Marcus Cottle, registrar.
