Sale [counterpart] for £55, by Luke Ludlam of Nether Haddon, co. Derby, yeoman, to Thomas Johnes of Matlock, co. Derby, husbandman, of divers lands and tenements in Matlock, viz. a messuage containing 4 'baias' and half of 'unum galdnum' and a parcel of land called Hempeyarde, now or late in the occupation of Thomas Ludlam, of Matlock aforesaid, yeoman, 2 cottages next to the messuage now or late in the occupation of Richard Walton and Barbara Bell, a croft called the Marshe, and another called Willeflatt now or late in the occupation of the said Thomas Ludlam, a parcel of land lying in Masson Leyes between the land late Dionisis Woodward on both sides, containing half an acre, a moiety of 2 crofts called the Marr Lane croft, and the Patche, all of which premises the said Thomas Ludlam, by a deed dated 11 October, 5 James I, and in consideration of £80 paid to him by Luke Ludlam, his brother, sold to the said Luke, and which was described therein as a messuage lying in Matlock in which Anthony Lane now or late dwelt, together with the lands thereto belonging, and which the said Thomas Ludlam had by the grant of Adam Wolley of Riber, co. Derby, gentleman, to hold of the honor of Pontefract in co. York in chief.
