Covenant by Thomas Winfeilde of Alderwasley, co. Derby, yeoman, to William Hopkinson of Wirksworth, co. Derby, gentleman, and Edward Deane, citizen and clothworker of London, that the said Thomas will, before the feast of St James the Apostle 1627, suffer the said William and Edward to bring a 'writ of entry in the post' against him for lands in Wirksworth, Alderwasley and Ashleyhay by the name of one messuage, barn, stable and garden, 8 acres each of land, meadow and pasture, which messuage together with divers freehold lands the said Thomas holds in tail in consideration of the marriage already solemnised between him and Dorothy his now wife, being sister of the said Edward; but since by her he has many children and is very likely to have many more by her, as the said Thomas and Dorothy are 'but of yonge yeares', he would not, if the same entail continues and he the said Thomas should die without heirs males, be able to leave his wife sufficient for her maintenance and his daughters towards their bringing up and supply of their wants.
