Lease, for 200 marks, from John Greaves of Woodhouse in the parish of Youlgreave, co. Derby, gentleman, to Charles Greaves of Le Greaves in the lordship of Beeley, co. Derby, yeoman, of a messuage, farm or tenement called Le Greaves, lying within the said lordship of Beeley and all houses and lands thereto belonging, which were late the jointure of Helen Greaves, mother of the said John and Charles; and also 4 acres of land lying in a close called Shorte Hedge, another close called Belly Wyllowes, all that piece of the 'meane' meadows lying in the Nether field in Beeley, and a close called Blackbrook, all which premises lie in said the lordship of Beeley and were or now are in the several occupations of the said Charles Greaves, Helen Greaves, widow, Henry Norman and Anthony Mather, to hold for the life of the said Charles Greaves and of Dorothy Greaves, one of the daughters of the said John Greaves, and the longer liver of them; annual rent, 13s.4d.; mutual covenant by the said Charles to repair and to keep safe the timber on the same, save what is needful for repairs, and for quiet enjoyment by the said John for himself and John Greaves, his grandfather, and John Greaves, late deceased, his father.

Sealed, signed and delivered, and peaceful possesion granted, in the presence of Richard Robertes, clerk, Robert Wright senior, his mark, William Greaves. Memorandum that I Charles Greaves of Le Greaves in the county of Derby, yeoman, do hereby set over all my right and interest in the within-named messuage and lands to John Greaves of the Woodhouse, co. Derby, esquire, for ever, and I acknowledge that I have received the sum of £114 in full satisfaction. Mark and seal of Charles Greaves. Dated 16 May 1637, these being witnesses, Richard Greaves and Robert Greaves.
