Copy of a Letter of Valuation from [J. Green] to [Mr Bradshaw] - I hope you received mine wherein I gave you my Computation of the value of the Estate proposed to be setled which falls something short of the £500 p.a. whereof I have given an account to Mr Roper who I think is well satisfied that he is fairly dealt with for although there be a small deficiency of a little more than £5 pa., which must be made up by an addition of some other lands, yet it was such easy mistakes as can leave no imputation of blame upon anyone. I considered that it may save you some trouble by having something of Mr Roper's thoughts before you come again into Lancashire, and therefore have desired him to give me leave to write to you in that respect, which he has accordingly done and the inclosed is an Abstract thereof (if I take him right) which I hope will please & be agreeable to, the intention of all parties. Mr Roper is altogether against selling any part of this land, though I told him of the necessity of purchasing the house adjoining to yours at Brampton, but notwithstanding I am persuaded you'll hardly miss this opportunity of purchasing it. As to the Lands of the value of £200 p.a. to be settled upon you in possession, the Manor of Abney, Mr Broomehead's farm in Eyam will answer it, and when the £100 p.a. falls upon the death of your father or mother, Bradshaw and the rents in Chinley would perhaps be the likest to answer it. When you come over again into Lancashire it might do well to bring an Abstract of Title or rather the Deeds themselves or both in order to have the title approved (if every thing be then agreed to as I hope it will) this is only my own thoughts to save you the trouble of these tedious journeys. But I believe Mr Roper will not be persuaded to marry his daughter (however safe it be upon Articles) till all Settlements and Conveyances are actually sealed and executed. Dated at Prescot [co. Lanc].
