Will (Copy) of George Bradshaw of Eyam, co. Derby, esquire - I make my will knowing certainly that die I must, and so that no contention shall arise after my decease - I commend my soul into the hands of Almighty God trusting to be saved by and through the alone merits, death and passion of my Lord and Saviour Christ Jesus, and my body to be buried at the discretion of my executors - As to my lands, First, I give all my messuage, farm and tenement lying in Abney, co. Derby, now in the tenures of John Greaves, Robert Marshall and William Redferne, and all the lands thereto belonging, to Peter Bradshaw my second son, and if he dies before the age of 21 years, then to my son and heir, Francis Bradshaw - I give the rest of my lands to my said son and heir Francis, saving to my younger children as hereafter set down - to Peter Bradshaw my said second son, £200 at 21 years - to Ann Bradshaw my eldest daughter, £500 and to Marie and Elizabeth Bradshaw, my youngest daughters, £300 to each, the said sums to be paid by my son and heir when they reach their respective age of 18 years, and if the said Ann dies before she is 18 years, then I give the said sum of £500 to my next eldest daughter, and if Marie and Elizabeth die before they are 18 years, then I bequeath their portion to Francis, my said son and heir - to my said son Francis, my silver basin and ewer, my 2 silver flagons, saving that my wife Elizabeth shall have the use of the same at my mansion house at Eyam during her life - to my said wife Elizabeth a dozen silver plates - to my sister Leucie Oneswell, £5 - to John Crashaw, Joan Merrell and Ellen Boore, my servants, 10s. each - all the rest of my goods I give to my said wife Elizabeth and my son and heir Francis equally - I appoint the said Elizabeth and Francis my executors and entreat my noble friend and father-in-law Michael Joanes of Lincoln's Inn esquire, my loving cousin Henry Bradshaw the younger and John Bradshaw esquire of Gray's Inn, his brother, to be overseers. Memorandum, that the said George Bradshaw did affirm the same as his last will and testament : My will is that my son and heir Francis shall allow towards the bringing up of my younger children £30 yearly - and if Letice the now wife of John Patt esquire dies before the said younger children reach, in the case of my son Peter, 21 years, and my daughters Ann, Marie and Elizabeth, 18 years, then my son Francis shall allow £20 yearly more towards the bringing up of my said younger children.
Dated as: 7 June, 1646
Endorsements: Mr George Bradshaw of Eyam, his Will.May 11th, 1680. Received of John Bradshaw esquire the full and just sum of £300 and all interest thereupon due, being the portion of Mary my wife bequeathed to her by her within named father, George Bradshaw esquire, by me, John Harland. £300.
