1. The first folio [in an 18th century hand] is dated 29 September 1741 and is a receipt signed by Robert Foster for 1s.4d. received from Mrs Bradshaw, by the hands of William Sampson, for tithe hay and grass at Brampton, and also for 2s.3d. for the estate lately belonging to Mr Thomas Lord in Brampton and usually paid to the vicar of Treeton for a year due this day.The other folios are undated, and are in several different 17th century hands:-2. On Tuesday, expenses for wine for dinner in the Great Chamber and for the Grand Jury and in the hall; for supper in the Great Chamber; for sack and claret in the Undersheriffs Chamber. On Monday, wine and beer for dinner and supper. On Thursday, wine; beer to the judges. Sum to tally, £4.10s.6d. 3. Disbursed for Mr Sheriff: paid to Mr Pyme; to James Greenesmyth; for 2 turkeys, 2 pullets and 2 capons; to ostlers for the horses; to a woman for 'ferne' for both courts; for 3 'coveringes' for saddles; 3 yards of cloth; lace; for making, stiffening and button; for black coverings for the saddle and cloth under it; hatband; to the Ringers; to the clerk for 'cushinges etc'; widow Sligh for the yard and blinding where the judges did sit; to Tom Cotton for beds; to the 'waytes' [singers], 10s.; for 6 men that attended the prisoners with 'holberds' at the exec[ution]; to the minister Mr Cooke for attending and instructing the prisoners; for his and Mr Mundye's men and the rest that attended the exec[ution]; their dinners at Tom Cotton's. In sum, £16.11sd.2d. Received of you, £10; Received of Mr Henry Bradshaw at Derby, £10; so rest to you, £3.10s.10d.4. For wine and beer on Monday before supper, etc. In sum, 19s.6d.5. First, in 'black towres taffety and whyte'; in silk' 3 yards of ribbon; a half of silk and paid for making the fringe; paid the tailor for his work. In sum, 18s.11d.6. At George Brereleys. For hay for Deppleick and my horses; for corn; for hay for George Bowd, ND, and US; for Edward Wrighte for hay; more for my servant Bowd and North his brother's man.7. For Mr Shearre Tuesday and Wednesday breakfast; for one man; for my charges at Leicester and my horse hire; given to Foster for playing to the [ju[dge] - crossed out] and Jury; for 3 hogshead of beer for the judges; for a barrel of ale; for 'fiear'; for baking of venison. In sum, £5.6s.10d.8. Saturday - First, at our coming for bread and beer; for 2 quarts of 'breawed wyne'. Sunday - In the morning, one pint of brewed wine; at Dinner, one pottell of sack; 2 gallows of 'carrot wyne & whyte'; at Supper, for wine; for beer. Monday Dinner - wine; at Supper in the Dining Chamber and to the Under Sheriffs; beer. Received of this, 6s. Tuesday's dinner - wine in the Dining Chamber and in the Hall; wine to the Grand Jury and at the Under Sheriffs table. At Supper on Tuesday - wine and beer. In sum, £7.10s.1d. Received £4.10s.0d. Received for wine, 6s. Remaining, £2.17s.0d.9. Saturday at supper in the Dining Chamber, 8 persons. In the Hall at supper, 27. Sunday - at dinner in the Dining Chamber, 17; at dinner in the Hall, 29. Sunday night supper - in the Dining Chamber, 15; in the Hall, 27. Monday dinner - in the Dining Chamber, 17; in the Hall, 29. Monday night supper - in the Dining Chamber, 21; in the Hall, 29. Tuesday dinner - in the Dining Chamber, 23; in the Hall, 30. Paid of these 3 persons. At the Grand Jury table, 20 persons; the Under Sheriff's table, 6. Tuesday supper - in the Dining Chamber, 22. Paid 6 persons. In the Hall, 33 persons.10. Paid for the 'veyle' (veal), the mutton, the lamb, 39s. For a dozen of chickens, 5s; half a dozen co. of 'Rabetts' (Rabbits), 4s.; half a a dozen of turkeys, 6s. In sum, £2.14s.11. To Mr Pym for 8 men 'waitinge of the Gayle' (Jail); to him for mending the bench and seats; to him for his 'dyott ovene meale & messe, etc'; to him for burying the prisoners; for knolling the bell; for the rent of the yard to Widow Sligh; to Mistress Cotton for the charge of the execution day; to Mr Cooke the Minister, 6s.; to the 'waytes', 15s; to the Ringers, 13s.4d.; to the Clerk, 6s.8d. In sum, £6.13s.2d. For the Judges present as appears by the note, £2.14s. Total sum, £9.7s.2d.
