Marriage Settlement between George [Talbot, 6th] Earl of Shrewsbury, of the most noble order of the Garter, knight, and Henry Pierpount of Holme, co. Nott., esquire, son of Sir George Pierpount, by way of covenants in consideration of the marriages of Edward and Henry Talbott, younger sons of the said earl, with Elizabeth and Mary, daughters of the said Henry Pierpount, if the same agree and the Church of England permits, in which case the same Henry agrees to convey to Gilbert Talbott and George Savyll, esquires, the manors and lands in 'le Woodhowse' [Woodhouse], Holbeck, Bonbusk, Nether Langwith, Sneinton, Holme, Boughton and Bolton, Bassingfield, Cotgrave, Barton, Widmerpool, Weston, Clipston and Cuckney in co. Nott., and Scarcliffe , Palterton, the Lanes, 'Mylnehowse' alias Shirebrook, Glapwell, Beeley, Staley, Woodthorpe, 'Brumley', 'Calsaye' and Oxcroft in co. Derby, or so much as the said earl and the Lady Elizabeth his now wife, countess of Shrewsbury, shall require, to the use of the said Henry for 80 years (if he so long shall live) and then to the eldest son born of the said Henry and Frances now his wife and his heirs male, and then in succession to other sons of the same, or to sons by any other wife, reversion to William Pierpount [Pierrepont], brother of the said Henry, and then to the sisters of the whole blood to the said Henry, and then to the use of the said Elizabeth Pierpount; provided that if the said Henry dies leaving sons alive after the said Elizabeth and Mary, his daughters, reach the age of 16 years, then the said Gilbert Talbott and George Savylle shall raise to the marriage portions of the said Elizabeth and Mary, £2,000; if the said Henry dies without heirs male, reversion to the same Elizabeth and Mary, and Gervase and William, his brothers.
