Sale by Margaret Johnson, widow, and Henry Johnson, her son, late of Horsley, co. Derby, gentleman, to Thomas Secheverell, of Kirkby in Ashfield, gentleman, of seven score (140) oaks now standing and growing in the close of the said Henry called Hennemore in the parish of Horsley, together with all underwood in the said close, which oaks are already signed with a wood mark of a headless cross set on them by John Bateman, a woodman; and the said Margaret and Henry grant the said Thomas free ingress and regress to and from the said close with horses, carts and carriages for the felling, hewing, cutting down and carrying away of the said oaks as underwood; and the said Thomas covenants with the said Margaret and Henry that he will fell and carry away out of the said close all the said oaks before the feast of Saints Philip and James the apostles commonly called May Day [1 May] 1549, and that he will pay to the said Henry £9.10s.
