Marriage Settlement by way of an Agreement, between Ralph Bridde [signs 'Beyrd', for Bird] of Nether Locko, gentleman, and Jane Dethike of Breadsall, widow, for the marriage, before the feast of the Purification of Our Lady next coming, of Richard Bridde [Bird], his son and heir apparent, with Margaret Dethike [Dethick], daughter of the said Jane, provided both parties assent, where the said Ralph will convey before the solemnization of the said marriage to Sir William Sacheverell, knight, Nicholas Assheby, John Dethik the younger, George Fynderne, Thomas Powtrell, gentlemen, William Campion, clerk, John Hether and John Lister the fee simple of lands and tenements of the yearly value of 10 marks 3s.4d., in trust for the use of the said Richard and Margaret, of which 9 marks is for the use of the same and their heirs male, and one mark 3s.4d. to the use of the said Ralph for his life with reversion at his death to the said Richard and Margaret; and also the said Ralph grants to the said Jane that before the marriage shall take place, he shall make a good estate to the said Sir Henry and his co-feoffees of the manor of Locko and of all his messuages and lands in Nether Locko and in Spondon, co. Derby to the said yearly value of 10 marks 3s.4d. assigned to the said Richard and Margaret in manner aforesaid, and providing also that 6 marks annually from the lands in Locko shall be paid to Jane Bridde, now wife of the said Ralph, for life in the name of her jointure; in consideration of which the said Margaret will pay 50 marks to the said Ralph, namely 25 marks on the day of the marriage, and 25 marks at Epiphany 1522.
