Lease, for 21 years, and £235, from queen Henriette Marie, widow of king Charles I, Henry [Jermyn] earl of St Albans, lord chamberlain of the Household, Sir John Winton, knight, principal secretary to the Queen, Sir Charles Harbord, knight, surveyor-general to King Charles II, Sir Henry Wood, knight and baronet, treasurer and receiver-general to the Queen, Sir Robert Long, baronet, surveyor-general to the Queen, and Sir Peter Balle, knight, attorney-general to the Queen, to William Hammond of Ufford, co. Suff., gentleman, of the manor of Marden alias Mawarden, co. Heref., with lands in Fromanton, Wistarton, Sutton Fren, Valde and Verne in the same county; annual rent, £78.17s.1d. At the end of the third membrane is written - This contains a Grant to William Hammond esquire of the manor of Marden alias Mawarden, co. Heref. for 21 years in possession under the ancient yearly Rent of £29.11s.3d. And of the demesne of the said Manor for 21 years in reversion after a former lease of about 20 years yet in being under the yearly rent of £49.5s.10d. In all the Rent of £78.17s.1d. And is for the fine of £235. And is done by virtue of your Majesty's pleasure signified to me by Sir John Mintour, knight, your Majesty's Secretary the 7 January 1666[7]; 12 January 1666[7], Peter Balle. By Her Majesty's command, C. Wintour.
