Grant from Nicholas Thornhill of Bakewell, co. Derby, son and heir of Thomas Thornhill of Thornhill, co. Derby, yeoman, in consideration of a marriage solemnised between the said Nicholas and Dorothy his now wife, daughter of Joan Eyley of Bakewell, co. Derby, widow, and of the sum of £200 paid to him by the said Joan as a marriage portion and competent jointure for the said Dorothy, and for the setting and establishing of the messuage and lands aftermentioned to the uses hereinafter mentioned, of a messuage in Thornhill late in the tenure of Thomas Wilson, and all buildings thereto belonging; and those closes in Thornhill called the Croft, the Locking Banke, the Tonge End, the Pickles, the Pringle beyond the Carr, the Lowe Foote and the Breach, and a parcel of land containing about one acre lying in a close in Thornhill called the Breach, all of which closes are or were in the tenure of the said Thomas Wilson; and the messuage house in Thornhill now or late in the tenure of John Botham, with all the buildings thereto belonging, with the closes called the Tippitt, the Over Broade Eye, the Nether Broade Eye, the Pingle, the Wormall Hey and the Pingles, and a parcel of land of about one acre lying in a close called the Croft, which closes are or were late in the tenure of the said John Botham; and all that messuage cottage called the Old House and the New House End in Thornhill, now or late in the tenure of John Derwent, and one barn and other buildings belonging thereto; and also a parcel of land of about one rood now or late in the possession of Edward Hagh lying in a close in Thornhill called the Middlestall; and another parcel of land of about one acre now or late in the possession of Widow Bullock and lying in Thornhill; together with all such ways, privileges etc. that have been used and enjoyed by the occupiers of the said premises by the space of 20 years last past; to Richard Calton of Stanton, co. Derby, gentleman, and John Eyley of Bakewell, co. Derby, yeoman, to hold in trust for 8 years paying the profits therefrom to the said Nicholas, and thereafter to hold to the use of the said Dorothy for her life in the name of her jointure; and then to hold to the use of the said Nicholas, then to the use of John Thornhill, son and heir apparent of the said Nicholas and his heirs male, and in default to the successive use in seniority of other the sons of the said Nicholas and Dorothy, then to the daughters of the same.
