MOZART: ‘Die Entfürung aus dem Serail. Comische Opera in III Acten mit Musik vom Wolfgang Amade Mozart’ (libretto, Stephanie der jüngere, after C. F. Bretzner), K384; late 18th or early 19th cent. Copy, in German. Score, written in ink, in the same hand throughout, on paper ruled with twelve, fourteen and sixteen staves to the page, with the libretto written out at the front (ff. 2-13) on different paper but by the same hand. The libretto appears to correspond to the printed libretto (Vienna: Logenmeister, 1782). The score includes the ‘Marsch der Janitscharen’ (ff. 71-2), omitted from the autograph and probably added by the composer in the course of rehearsals for the first production (see G. Croll, ‘Ein Janitscharen-Marsch zur "Entführung"’, Mitteilungen der Internationalen Stiftung Mozarteum, xxviii (1980), pp. 2-5). Signed ‘Ch Schmidt’ (f.ii). There is a partial pagination and several corrections in pencil, some erased, in a German hand of the nineteenth or twentieth century; these corrections arise from a comparison of this manuscript with another score.
ff. ii + 308. 297 x 220mm. Contemporary half-leather binding with green boards and a green spine label reading ‘Mozart Die Entfürung’. The front cover and first fifty folios have been punctured by a sharp point.
