Dimensions: 270 x 180 mm (text space: 220 x 150/ 215 x 135 mm).
Foliation: ff. vii + 3* + 129 ( ff. 1* and 3* are medieval parchment flyleaves, f. 2* is a folded sheet of paper pasted to f. 3*). ff. 1-129: 16th-century foliation (single leaves after ff. 45, 69 not foliated, and number 88 omitted).
Script: Caroline minuscule and Anglo-Saxon minuscule.
Binding: British Museum/British Library in-house binding.

Origin: England (Mercia or Northumbria).
Provenance:
William Fleetwood [Fletewoode] (b. c.1525, d. 1594), lawyer and antiquary: erased inscription of his name (ff. 3*verso and f. 129v); no. 1 of the manuscripts at Missenden Abbey, the home of the Fleetwood family: see Ker 1957.
18th-century? inscription '111 A ii' (f. 3*r).
The Harley Collection, formed by Robert Harley (b. 1661, d. 1724), 1st earl of Oxford and Mortimer, politician, and Edward Harley (b. 1689, d. 1741), 2nd earl of Oxford and Mortimer, book collector and patron of the arts.
Edward Harley bequeathed the library to his widow, Henrietta, née Cavendish Holles (b. 1694, d. 1755) during her lifetime and thereafter to their daughter, Margaret Cavendish Bentinck (b. 1715, d. 1785), duchess of Portland; the manuscripts were sold by the Countess and the Duchess in 1753 to the nation for £10,000 (a fraction of their contemporary value) under the Act of Parliament that also established the British Museum; the Harley manuscripts form one of the foundation collections of the British Library.
