MS Mus. 97. DONALD MITCHELL COLLECTION. Vol. i. Gustav Mahler: cancelled folio from the draft orchestral full score of the third movement, ‘Rondo-Burleske’, of the Symphony no.9 in D major; [probably 1909]. Autograph. Written in ink on paper of 24 staves. The recto contains bars 412-25 and the verso bars 426-43. The music differs from the critical edition only in markings of dynamics and articulation, most notably in the direction ‘Etwas zurückhaltend’ written above bars 432-7. The final two bars of the recto and the whole of the verso are cancelled in blue crayon, with the note ‘bleibt alles’ written in crayon across the top of the verso. Other corrections have been made in pencil and in red crayon, and there are numerous erasures.
