Written in ink, for keyboard, with the words written above the stave. Copied from William Chappell, Old English Popular Music, ed. H. E. Wooldridge (1893), I, pp. 108-9. The words are adapted from Shakespeare, and the song was apparently first published in this setting in J. Stafford Smith’s Musica Antiqua (J. Preston, [1812]), pp. 171-2. Purchased from Lisa Cox (cat. 37, no. 102), 1 March 2000.
