ROYAL MUSIC COLLECTION. G.F. Handel: The Passion of Christ (Brokes Passion) (on a text by Barthold Heinrich Brockes) (HWV 48); circa 1720. Copy. (Händel-Gesellschaft XV; Hallische Händel-Ausgabe I/7, 1965). Full score. A German MS. of the Brockes Passion. [Main autograph lost] For autograph of the Sinfonia see R.M.20.g.13, ff.18v-21v; for another copy see R.M.19.d.3.
Points of note:
1. With annotations in the hand of C. P. E. Bach, including the annotation ‘Brocksche Passion von Händeln’ on f.2, role names to a number of movements, text incipits to the chorales near the end, and the text to one of the recitatives.
2. f.1. Title page in the hand of C. P. E. Bach’s daughter Anna Carolina Philippina Bach: ‘Der für die Sünde der Welt gemarterte und sterbende Jesus in gebundener Rede vorgestellet und musicalich verfertiget von Georg Friedrich Händel’.
3. ff.11-13v. The chorus ‘Wir wollen’ is different from the version in R.M.19.d.3.
