The numbering of the scenes differs in the MS. from H-G., which follows the printed libretto. ff. 29v, 38v, 51v, 84v, 96v, 99v, 107v and 119v are blank.
Points of note:
1. f. 5. Act I, sc. 1. At the end of the opening recitative: ‘Il nemico fugge dal muro all’arrivo di Alessandro’. H-G. prints this direction in part over bar 14 of the following Sinfonia.
2. f. 10. ‘Tra le stragi e tra le morti’. H-G. p. 12, etc., prints ‘Fra le stragi’, etc.
3. f. 26v. ‘Nò piu soffrir’. The beginning of another setting, crossed out, followed on f. 27 by that in H-G., p. 33.
4. f. 32. ‘Men fedele’ (H-G., p. 38) is preceded by words of recitative (without music), crossed out. The original words of ‘Men fedele’ (crossed out) began: ‘Vincitore trionfante’, etc.
5. f. 34. Words only of recitatives, crossed out.
6. f. 34v. Rossane’s recitative, ‘Si lusingando’, was originally followed by an air: ‘Qual’onda è quest’alma’, only the beginning of which is in the MS., but crossed out.
7. f. 56v. Act II. A few bars of another setting of ‘Vani amori’ (afterwards altered to ‘Vano amore’) crossed out, followed on f. 57 by the setting of H-G., p. 63.
8. ff. 74-75v. Scene 6 originally began with a ‘Symfonie’, consisting of Grave and Allegro movements of some length (used in Scipio). These are crossed out, and replaced by the Sinfonia in H-G. (p.87).
9. f. 97. Act III, sc. 4. ‘Si dolce lusingar’ follows the recitatives between Lisaura and Alessandro (H-G., p. 109). The words are not in the libretto.
10. f. 108. ‘D’un fiero tiranno’ (H-G., p.119, prints: ‘D’uom fiero nel soglio’). The chorus is sung by ‘S[enesino]’; A[ntinori]’; ‘Baldi’ – all ‘dentro la scena’; ‘Leonat’; ‘Clito’.
11. f. 119. ‘Fine dell’Opera Li 11d’aprile 1726’.
12. f. 120. An inserted leaf with a note by F. Nicolai.
13. ff. 121-122. ‘L’armi implora’. An additional song (H-G., p.133).
