f. i is a blank leaf at the end of the volume; ff. 41v-42 and 49v are ruled with staves but otherwise blank.
Points of note:
1. f. 1. At foot of page: ‘angefangen Decembr 18. 1736’.
2. f. 3. At the end of the third movement of the Overture: ‘Segue la Giga’. The gigue is not in the MS. (Cf Fitzwilliam MSS No 262). f. 3v has Act I, scene 1.
3. ff. 25-26v. The duet ‘Se il mio amor’ has several passages crossed out in ink.
4. f. 27. ‘Fine del Atto primo Decembr 27. 1736’.
5. f. 30v. Act II, sc. 3. The air ‘Sempre dolci’ has corrections in pencil (followed in H-G.).
6. f. 48. Sc. 13. ‘Si tra i ceppi’ (H-G., p. 100). The music is the same as that of ‘Le vicende della sorte’.
7. f. 50. Another setting of ‘Si tra i ceppi’ (H-G., p. 62)
8. ff. 53-54. Sc. 14. The long passage in ‘Si poco è forte’ printed in H-G. (pp. 66-67) within dotted brackets is crossed out in pencil in the MS.
9. f. 54v. ‘London Fine dell’Atto 2do Jan. 7th 1736 [sic] G. F. Handel’
10. ff. 58v-62. Act III, sc. 4. ‘Chi t’indende’. The passages marked ‘Andante’ in H-G., are all ‘Allegro’ in the MS.
11. ff. 68-69. Sc. 8. The air ‘Avvertite mie pupille’ is crossed out in pencil in the MS., and the end of the preceding recitative altered (as in H-G., p. 89).
12. ff. 72-77v. Sc. 9. The order of the MS is as follows: A pencil cut is marked after ‘dal favor’ (Alessandro’s recitative, H-G., p. 92). The music continues (f. 72v) as printed in H-G., pp. 102-104. The recitatives (H-G., p. 95) (f. 74) and the chorus (ff. 74v-77v) follow.
13. f. 77v. ‘Fine dell’Opera Berenice G.F. Handel January 18. 1737. Auszufüllen geendiget den 27 January 1737.’.
