-
Between ff. 15 and 16, and 76 and 77 are leaves ruled with staves but otherwise blank; ff. 17v, 59v and 78v are ruled with staves but otherwise blank.
Points of note:
1. f. 3. Act I, sc. 3. At the bottom of the page: ‘angefangen. [here is the symbol for Monday]. Octobr 27. 1740’. Both sections of the march have repeat marks (omitted in H-G.).
2. f. 13. Sc. 2. The version of ‘Die lusinghe, die dolcezze’ [sic] is that in H-G., pp. 22-25.
3. f. 16. The version of ‘Die lusinghe’ in H-G., pp. 20-21.
4. ff. 21v-27. Sc. 4. The arrangement of the MS. is as follows: the recitatives (H-G., p. 35) of Nerea and Deidamia down to the words ‘Viene An[tiloco]’. ff. 22-25v: The setting of ‘Si che desio’ in H-G., pp. 37-42. ff. 26-27: The rest of the recitatives (from ‘[Ant]iloco: io parto’) followed by the setting of ‘Si che desio’ in H-G., pp. 36-37.
5. f. 32. At the end of the Act: ‘G. F. Handel [here is the symbol for Saturday] Nov. 1. 1740’.
6. f. 32v. Act II, sc. 1. ‘Sinfonia ex D. m.’ The Symphony is not in the MS.
7. f. 53v. Sc.9, 10. The air ‘Va perfido’ and recitative ‘Placar tosto’ are missing. (Cf. Fitzwilliam MSS, No. 258, pp. 57-60).
8. f. 55. ‘Coro di Cacciatori e Ninfe Si replica con altre parole. Fine dell’Atto 2do G.F. Handel ♀ [Friday] Novembr 7. 1740’.
9. f. 55v. The beginning of the chorus ‘L’alto Giove’ with a reference back to f. 45 ‘e poi fine dell’Atto 2do’.
10. f. 56. Act III. ‘angefangen ♀ [Friday] 14 Oct. 1740’. Handel has clearly written ‘Oct.’ instead of ‘November’. Nov. 14 was a Friday, and the astrological sign fits that day, but not Oct. 14.
11. ff. 66v-68. Sc. 2. From bar 29 of the air ‘Come all’urto’ (H-G., end of p. 114) to the repetition of the word ‘rovinosa’ on f. 68 (H-G., p. 116, bar 13) all is crossed out in pencil.
12. f. 68v. (H-G., p. 118, top line). The 2nd-7th bars and the tie to the A in bar 8 are crossed out in pencil.
13. f. 69v. (H-G., p. 119, line 1, bar 9) the words (‘senza…sarò’) are crossed out in pencil, and ‘saro guida…e il mio’ written above them. From line 2, bar 5 to the Adagio (line 4) are crossed out in pencil.
14. f. 75v. Sc. 6. The recitatives are followed by the version of ‘Non vuò perdere’ in H-G., p. 130.
15. f. 79. The version of ‘Non vuò perdere’ in H-G., p. 128.
16. f. 86v. ‘Fine dell’Opera. G. F. Handel London Novembr 20 [here is the symbol for Thursday]. 1740’.
