Between ff. 4 and 5, 29 and 30, 79 and 80 are folios ruled with staves but otherwise blank, not foliated; ff. 4v and 62v are ruled with staves but otherwise blank.
Points of note:
1. f. 1-6v. Overture. ‘Agost 14. 1736’ at foot of f. 1. The Overture seems originally to have been shorter. The places for additions (on ff. 4, 5) are indicated by letters. (Cf. Fitzwilliam MSS, No 265, pp. 77-82).
2. f. 26. Act I, sc. 6. The arrangement of the MS. is as follows:
(1) recitatives (Leocasta, Giustino) ‘meco alla reggia… sorte migliore’. Version B (H-G., p. 32);
(2) ‘Segue l’Aria ex A#’, i.e. the setting of ‘Nacque al bosco’ in A (H-G., p. 33);
(3) the setting of ‘Nacque al bosco’ in G (H-G., p. 31) partly crossed out in ink.
3. f. 27. The setting of ‘Nacque al bosco’ in A (H-G., p. 33).
4. f. 29v. (End of ‘Nacque al bosco’). ‘Segue scena 7ma dell’Atto 1’, followed by a blank leaf.
5. f. 30. The end of the setting of ‘Nacque al bosco’ in G minor (Sc. 6B, as printed in H-G., is not in the MS. Cf. Fitzwilliam MSS, No 262, p. 38).
6. f. 30v. ‘Scena 7’ (H-G., p. 38). The part of Amanzio is written in the Bass clef.
7. f. 37. The tempo of ‘Non si vanti’ is marked ‘Andante larghetto’.
8. f. 47v. ‘Fine dell’Atto 1 Agost 29. 1736’.
9. f. 57v. Act II, sc. 8. The direction ‘Mettendo le mani sopra la spada’ printed in H-G. (p. 75) over the end of Anastasio’s recitative should be over the first words of Giustino’s air: ‘Sull’altar di questo Nume’.
10. ff. 60v-65v. Sc. 9. The recitatives and the air ‘Qual [not Quel] Torrente’ contain numerous directions for transpositions and alterations, agreeing with H-G.
11. f. 66. Sc. 10. The whole of this scene has been unaccountably transferred in H-G. to Act III, where it is printed on pp. 86-87.
12. f. 67v. ‘Fine dell’Atto 2. Sept 3. 1736’.
13. f. 68. Act III, sc. 1. The Sinfonia (H-G., p. 85) is followed immediately on f. 68v by Vitaliano’s recitative (p. 88).
14. f. 78v. Sc. 5. The recitative in this page ends with ‘amiam pur’ (H-G., p. 101, last line, 2d bar) and continues on f. 80.
15. f. 79. ‘Dall’occaso’ (H-G., p. 102) follows: ‘NB. per la Scena 6 del Atto 3’. f. 79v is followed by a blank leaf.
16. f. 80. Continues f. 78v.
17. f. 84v. Sc. 8. A recitative for Anastasio (‘E dove mi traete empi, inhumani? Quell’orrida pena che de’ Tiranni è il fine’) which follows the air ‘Or che cinto’ is omitted in H-G.
18. ff. 85-91v. The opening of scene 9 is on f. 87. From ‘Il mio a-’ (H-G., p. 111) to the end of ‘Ti rendo questo cor’ continues on ff. 85-86. The rest of the scene on ff. 87v-91v.
19. f. 91v. ‘Fine dell’Opera G. F. Handel London 7. Septembr 1736 ū von dem 15 Oct. biss de[n] 20. An[no] 1736 ausgefüll[et]’.
