- Title:

- Scope & Content:
-
The part of Lotario is called ‘Ottone’ until scene 12 of Act II. ff. 41v, 42v and 74v are ruled with staves but otherwise blank. For another copy see Eg. 2927. See also Donald Burrows and Martha J. Ronish, A Catalogue of Handel’s Musical Autographs (Oxford: Clarendon, 1994), p. 42.
ff. 104. 9.5 x 12in.
Points of note:
1. f. 26v. Act I, sc. 7. ‘Già mi sembra’ was originally written in notes of half the values of those in H-G., p. 33. All this has been crossed out in ink and the song re-written (f. 28) as in H-G., but without any indication of tempo.
2. f. 52v. Act II, sc. 5. ‘Non t’inganni’ (H-G., p. 61) in the key of F, but marked (in pencil): ‘ex G un tono piu alto’.
3. f. 56v. Sc. 8. ‘Arma lo sguardo’ (H-G., p. 66). The original text has been crossed out in a few places. Before the words ‘Arma lo sguardo the MS. has ‘(ad Idelb:)’.
4. f. 66. Sc. 12. A note (crossed out) directs the change of the name of Ottone to that of Lotario.
5. f. 87. Act III, sc. 8. The recitative ‘Inclito rè’ (H-G., p. 106) in a different setting and a first draft of ‘Vedrò più liete’ originally followed the end of Sc. 8, but have been crossed out.
6. f. 96. Sc. 12. (H-G., p. 113). The beginning of the recitatives (‘Omai non v’è’ to ‘rubelle’) is missing. [No. the recit continues from f. 93v, ff. 94-95, containing the aria ‘Impara codardo’ were inserted in the middle of the recitative].
7. f. 104v. Sc. 16. ‘Fine dell’Opera G F. Handel. Novembr 16 1729’.
