2. ff. 21-37v. ‘Let God arise’ (Anthem for the Chapel Royal 11b, HWV 256b) (H-G. XXXV, p. 263; Hallische Händel-Ausgabe III/9, 1992). For copies see Eg. 2911 (ff. 22-48), Add. 3. ff. 38-61. The Deum in D Major (HWV 280) (H-G. XXXVII, No 1, p. 1). For copies see R.M.19.e.2., Eg. 2914 (ff. 116-129). f. 38: ‘We praise Thee O Lord’ [sic]. The solos are marked ‘Verse’ and the fortes ‘Loud’ throughout the MS. f. 38v: The names of the singers have been altered at different times. Alto: - ‘Mr. Eilfort’, ‘Hughs’, ‘Mr Bayley’ – all crossed out. ‘Mr. Leigh’. Tenor: - ‘Mr Menz’. Bass: - ‘Mr Gates’, ‘Beker’, ‘Whely’ – all crossed out. ‘Mr Wase’. Similar alterations appear throughout. f. 41v: ‘To Thee Cherubin’. ‘Mr Bayley’, ‘Mr Hughs’ – both crossed out. ‘Mr. Leigh’. f. 49: ‘When Thou tookest upon Thee’ (H-G., p. 11). ‘Mr Menz’, ‘Mr Eilfort’, ‘Hughs’(in pencil) – all crossed out. ‘Mr Baily’. Note at the top of the page (in pencil in another handwriting): ‘Teede and Richter’. f. 55v: Part of ‘Vouchsafe, O Lord’ (H-G., p. 18, version A), marked ‘Mr. Hughs’. This page has been fastened down. ff. 56v-57: ‘Vouchsafe, O Lord’ (H-G., p. 19, version B). ‘Mr. Hughs’. ‘Mr. Bayly’. A MS. note (by Dr. Burney?) states: ‘This is all Mr Smith’s handwriting except the name of Bayly’.
