Lettered on binding: ‘Sonata’s &c.’ [?].
1. ff. 1-4v. ‘Concerto’. Op. III, No 6 (HWV 317) (H-G. XXI, p. 54). The first movement only, marked: ‘Vivace’. [This was played in Ottone. Se Walsh edition of the opera and also Leichtentritt, Hugo, Handel (Berlin, 1924), pp. 660, 795]. For copies see R.M.19.g.7. (ff. 99-110), R.M.18.c.6. (ff. 5-8v), Eg. 2918 (ff. 15-18), Add. MS. 33238 (f. 7v-8).
2. ff. 5-8v. ‘Sonata a Violino solo e Cembalo di G. F. Handel’. Op. I, No 13 (HWV 371) (H-G. XXVII, p. 47). The first movement is marked ‘Affettuoso’. The last movement was originally much longer, but altered by pencil cuts to the version in H-G., p. 50 [These were obviously made when the movement was used in the Act III of Jephta as the Sinfonia].
3. ff. 9-12. ‘Sonata a Travers: e Basso’. Op. I, No 1a (HWV 379)(H-G. XXVII, p. 2).
4. ff. 12v-15v. Sonata a Flauto e Cembalo’. Op. I, No 4 (HWV 362) (H-G. XXVII, p. 15). The sonata appears to belong to the same set of autograph copies as those of the other three recorder sonatas from Op. I in the Fitzwilliam MSS (where only the first three bars of this sonata are present). [Op. I: Nos 1a, 4, 13 are here; Nos 1b, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 are in Fitzwilliam 30.h.11 and 30.h.13; No. 5 is unknown; Nos 10, 12, 14 and 15 duds].
5. f. 16. Fugue. From Suite IV (HWV 429) (H-G. II, p. 24) with the values of the notes doubled. The end (from H-G., p. 25, line 5, bar 2) is missing.
6. f. 17. ‘Courante’ from Suite III (HWV 428) (H-G. II, p. 16).
7. ff. 18v-21v. ‘Grave’. The beginning of a movement: 1st Violin and Bass only written; partly crossed out in ink. Beneath: ‘Sinfonia’, ‘Grave e staccato’; at the end: ‘Segue la Fuga’. (The introduction to the Brockes Passion (HWV 48, H-G. XV, pp. 1-4). See also R.M.19.d.3.
8. ff. 22-24. ‘Suites de Pieces’, ‘Largo’ for two Horns, two Oboes, two Violins, Viola ‘ad libitum’, and Bass. (H-G. XXI, p. 98).
9. ff. 24v-28v. ‘Concerto’. Op. IV, No 6 (HWV 294) (H-G. XXVIII, p. 63). The Harp or Organ part in the hand of Smith Junior, but with the greater part of the Larghetto crossed out in pencil by Handel.
10. ff. 29-32v. ‘Ouverture’ in D major. (HWV 337) The first movement for three Violins, Viola, two Oboes, Bassons and Basses. The second (‘Adagio’) for Violin Solo, Flute, and ‘Arciliuto’. Violoncello, Contra Basso piano senza Cembalo’. The last (‘Allegro’) for two Violins, two Oboes, Viola and Bass. Unidentified.
11. ff. 33-36v. ‘Ouverture’. For two Horns, two Violins, two Oboes, Viola and Bass. The first movement (‘Un poco allegro’) is the same as that of the Overture to Parnasso in Festa (HWV 73) (H-G. LIV, p. 1), but in a different key. The second (‘Allegro’) and third (‘A tempo di Bouree’) movements are in the Overture to the second version of Il Pastor Fido (HWV 8) (H-G. :XXXIV, p. 69).
12. ff. 37-39v. ‘Ouverture’ to Alceste (HWV 45) (H-G. XLVI B).
