(1-4.). ROYAL MUSIC COLLECTION. Motets and canons; 18th century.
Paper.
1. 6 ff. Lasso (Orlando di): 12 Motets. A late copy of the ‘Motetti a due voci’ printed in 1585.
2. 5 ff. Anon: Canons. A numbered set of 9 canons for 3, 4 and 8 voices, in score. The first two are ‘Sancta Trinitas’ and ‘Aude, vide, tace …’. They occur in a volume of pieces by O. di Lasso, and may also be by him.
3. 55 ff. Lasso (Orlando di): Canons. A numbered collection of 99 canons for several voices, in score, presumably by Di Lasso, on the plainsong ‘Laudate Dominum omnes gentes’. On f. 4 is written ‘Hic terminantur ea, quae facta fuerunt ab auctore in suis principiis. Contra puncta Don Ferdinandi’; and on top of the next page ‘et sequuntur quae addita fuerunt (ut amicis morem gererit) A. 1571’. Ferdinando di Lasso was born about 1559-60.
4. 30 ff. ‘Canons of different sorts very difficult and curious …’. A collection of 29 canon upon ‘O Lux’, ‘Per naturam’ and ‘Miserere’ plainsong melodies. [For another copy see R.M.24.d.7.(2.)].
