PETTY PAPERS. VOL. III (ff. iii + 225). Letters, etc., from Petty and his wife to Robert Southwell senior and Sir Robert Southwell; 1663-1683. Including (ff. 1-58, 224-225) notes, reports and letters by Petty and Southwell to Henry Oldenburg, secretary to the Royal Society, and others, concerning Petty's experimental twin-hulled ship, 1663-1683, mostly printed by the 6th Marquess of Lansdowne in The Double Bottom, or Twin-hulled Ship of Sir William Petty; a letter to Southwell from Sir Peter Pett, 1676 (f. 119); and a number of enclosures concerning Petty's Irish affairs. The latter are chiefly petitions, proposals, etc., concerning the Kerry quit rents, for which there is related material in Add. 72900, 72901 below, and papers concerning the Irish revenue and other public matters in the 1670s, for which there is related material in Add. 72879 below. The letters from Petty dated before 1677, the letters from Lady Petty, and most of the enclosed papers are not printed in the Petty-Southwell Correspondence. See also Add.
