Correspondence, etc., between Petty and Sir Robert Southwell, 1684-1687, continuing the preceding volume, followed by correspondence, 1687-1688, between Petty's eldest son, Charles, and Southwell's son, Edward; 1684-1688. As in the preceding volume, the enclosures include documents concerning Petty's Irish quit-rents and the twin-hulled ship (ff. 4-6v, 10-13v, 144), as well as the following:
1. ff. 39-40. 'Touching Monsr Pascall's Opineon of Witt'; 1685. In the hand of an amanuensis. See also Add. 72851, f. 150-153v above.
2. f. 103. Verses by Petty on his coat of arms; 30 July 1686. Copy. Latin.
3. ff. 130-131. 'Concerning the Number of People in London, as also in Paris, Rouen & Rome' and 'Several other Estimats'; [1686]. In the hand of James Waller and another amanuensis. The first is included in Five Essays in Political Arithmetick (1687) (see Economic Writings, ed. Hull, II, pp. 527-529). It is also mentioned in a list of papers to be shown to James II in November 1686 (Add. 72866, ff. 63-64v).
4. ff. 151-154v. 'The Contents of a Treatis Concerning Ireland'; 1687. In the hand of an amanuensis. For the 'Treatise' itself, see Add. 72886 below and the fair copy in Add. MS 21128. A slightly differing version of the 'Contents' is printed from the latter in Economic Writings, ed. Hull, II, pp. 551-553.
