These manuscripts expand some of the shorter papers on Ireland in Add. 72882-72885 above. See also Add. 72853, ff. 151-154, 'Contents of a Treatise', enclosed in Petty's letter to Southwell of 4 Aug 1687. For the final version of this treatise preserved by Southwell in fair copy, including this summary of contents, see Add. MS 21128, ff. 52-142, from which it is reprinted in Economic Writings, ed. 1. ff. 1-45. 'Political Pastimes and Paradoxes', the treatise in nine 'chapters' which is the central text of the 'Treatise of Ireland'; 1687. Three drafts, one autograph (ff. 1-21v) and two by different amanuenses (ff. 22-35v, 36-44), the last corrected and marked 'A' by Petty and bearing the label by James Matthews (f. 36), 'Various rough Draughts of Political Essays &c concerning Ireland (5)'. Vol. 4, items 36, 21, and 1.
2. ff. 46-83v. 'An Appendix of objections to this Essay with Answer to the same'; 1687. Two drafts (ff. 46-49v, 50-83v), both in the hand of a different amanuensis from the above, the text and title of the second expanded and marked 'B' by Petty; the latter is paginated 1-58 by Petty, with 29-32 missing. B45; Vol. 4, item 26.
3. ff. 84-85v. 'A Dialogue between A and B concerning Sir William Petty's Treatice of Ireland'; 1687. B89.
4. f. 86. Notes in the hand of George Savile, Marquess of Halifax, raising objections to the 'Treatise'. With a 19th cent.(?) pencilled note at the foot of the page incorrectly identifying the handwriting as Southwell's. I122.
5. ff. 87-92v. '17 Objections against The Essay about the settlement of Ireland'; [1687]. Draft and copy in the hand of the same amanuensis as item 2 above. Including comments on Halifax's objections. B96, B97.

Consisting of two parts, the first (ff. 183-186) entitled 'A Series of Matters relateing to Estates in Ireland', which also appears as part of 'Another more true and calm Narrative of the Settlement & Sale of Ireland' (see Add. 72883, ff. 105-112, above), and (ff. 187-199) 'Another view of the same Matters by way of a dialogue between A: & B:', which is included in the final version of the 'Treatise of Ireland' in Add.
